"Becky- Home- Ecky"

I am turning into a regular "becky-home-ecky" if I do say so myself. Throughout my long and arduous college days I would sit and day dream about my life as a stay at home mother and what I would do to fill my days.  Well, things haven't gone quite as I had planned.  I was horribly mistaken when I thought being a mother was "easy" and I would have all the time in the world to craft, exercise, read good books, learn to cook, sew etc. etc. etc.
After 8 months of Genevieve's life I am finally getting the hang of this whole "mother" thing and actually have found some time to learn how to thread my bobbin... thank you "youtube".  My very good friend Kate is having triplet boys and to get their nursery ready she decided they each needed their own quilt not matching but three quilts with lots of different fabric that all went together.  This was not an easy task.  However, we are not woman whoever back down from a challenge.  After, many hours of swapping fabrics in and out we finally settled on enough fabric for three quilts. As Kate was checking out she was astonished to find that I didn't have any fabric of my own.  Was she crazy?  I didn't even know how to thread my bobbin, remember?  I couldn't sew a quilt.  After much convincing from Kate I quickly picked my fabric out and started on my new adventure of sewing.  Something I have learned I LOVE.
After piecing together and sewing Genevieve's quilt (pics to come) I was impressed by my new found talent so I mistakenly believed I was good enough to actually sew a blanket for someone else... as a gift.  Yes, looking back now I know I'm crazy. So I thought what better person to make one for than my best cousin Carissa who is having a baby boy in August. I bought the fabric with her red, black and damask family room in mind instead of the nursery.  This way the baby blanket will match the family room and can always be looking cute.

Here is what I came up with...

I hope Carissa loves the blanket as much as I do... you never know how much a quilt means when you receive one until you actually know how hard it is to make one.  I had no idea how much work, thought and love went into quilts until I sat down to make one for Carissa and her new baby Lucas.  I can't wait to see him doing tummy time on his red and black blanket.  ~love you.

Oh my gosh this is me to a T. I remember learning to thread a bobbin and sew the basic pillow case and such in Junior High TLC class but ever since then- out the window. I tried to make headbands a couple of hears ago and just bagged the sewing machine idea and moved on to hot glue.

When and if I ever get ambitious again- I'm calling you up. Get ready ;)

This turned out awesome. I was admiring it on the baby shower post. I'm hoping to get enough energy back to finish all the quilts I've been building or saving in my "hopeful" chest.

Kenze, that is so beautiful!! I'm so excited that you are enjoying sewing. I love it because it gives me a little "me" time. And it also feels so good to see a project that starts as scraps turn into a work of art. Keep sewing girl. And lets do a project together one day. Love you.
PS, we would love to do dinner next week but it would have to be on the weekend because Mike gets home pretty late. Let me know.
